Our story, our mission, our space
Discover the heart behind Safe Space – Resilience in Nature, a place crafted for calm, connection, and community. Learn what inspires us and how we're building a nurturing environment for everyone.

What inspired Safe Space?
Safe Space – Resilience in Nature CIC grew from a simple belief: people thrive when they feel safe, connected and free to simply be themselves. Over the years, through working with families, children, dogs and individuals experiencing stress, anxiety and life challenges, it became clear that many people benefit from something different to busy halls and clinical environments. They need space to slow down, breathe, move, explore and reconnect with themselves and the world around them. Inspired by the healing power of nature, the importance of emotional safety and a desire to create a welcoming place for the whole community, Safe Space was born. Set amongst fields and animals, Safe Space aims to provide gentle, meaningful experiences that encourage connection, curiosity, confidence and wellbeing. Whether that's sitting quietly with the sheep, sharing stories, creating, learning, or simply enjoying time outdoors, we believe there is value in slow.

What can people expect from visiting Safe Space?
Safe Space is not a busy attraction or a place where people are expected to rush from one activity to the next. It is a place to slow down, breathe and reconnect with nature, animals and each other. Visitors can expect a relaxed and welcoming environment where there is no pressure to perform, achieve or keep up. Whether joining a workshop, attending a seasonal event or simply spending time outdoors, we hope people leave feeling calmer, more connected and refreshed. Each experience is a little different, but visitors may find themselves: sitting amongst the sheep and observing their gentle nature; listening to stories under the trees; exploring the changing seasons through crafts and nature activities; building dens, following trails or going on mini adventures; enjoying picnics and sharing simple moments.

Who do we hope will benefit most?
We hope Safe Space will benefit anyone who feels they would gain from a calmer, more natural environment, particularly children, families and adults who may find traditional indoor settings overwhelming or restrictive. This includes neurodivergent individuals, children struggling with anxiety or confidence, home-educating families, carers, parents, people experiencing stress or isolation, and those simply seeking connection with nature and community. Increasingly, research and professional practice recognises the benefits of nature-based interventions and walk-and-talk therapy in promoting mental and emotional wellbeing.
"Safe Space has been a revelation for our family. The gentle environment and the connection with nature have brought a profound sense of calm that we truly cherish."
A happy visitor
